Up For Debate Summer Camp Overview
Looking for something this summer to help your child practice public speaking? You’re in the right place! Up For Debate is a summer camp for Grade 6-7 students to build on their strategic thinking and communication skills by engaging in debates.
Throughout the 5-day camp, students will utilize tools such as debate jargon, body language, argumentative structures, and evidence presentation to make reasoned and persuasive points. With a focus on team discussions and sharing different perspectives, this camp introduces thought-provoking topics for students to research and discuss. Starting from Day 3, students will have daily debate activities to practice their research, analytical, and public speaking skills.
This camp is designed for growing minds to broaden their knowledge of current events, and to foster an environment of open communication and discussion.
Camp Dates & Location
Camp 1: July 11-15 (1:30pm-4:30pm)
Camp 2: July 18-22 (9:30am-12:30pm)
Location: Richmond Public Library at Brighouse (7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond)

Prerequisites
Up For Debate is for grade 6-7 students who have fundamental skills in public speaking. While we understand that each student’s comfort level with speaking may vary, students will be expected to participate in class discussions.
We welcome students of all learning attitudes, but love to give gold stars to those who show an extra willingness to learn!
